This is lovely antique French lorgnette.
It's made of tortoiseshell. The mount is sterling silver, actually quite old because dating from the Louis Philippe period, before Napoleon III. The hallmark is the French Rabbit's Head.
The glasses are still there.
It's one of the first glasses of the type, which become common after
1850. Therefore, there are no springs in these mecanisms.
Dimensions: closed: 7,8 x 2,6 cm;
Length when it's open: 17,5 cm.
Period: between 1819 et 1838.
